Showing our love and support for our Kiwanis, I found myself and many other Key Clubbers at the July 30th Kiwanis DCM. We helped set up and take down furniture as well as pass out items during speakers’ presentations. One of the items we helped pass out was a red and gold ribbon while Linda Marx, President of the Greater Henderson Kiwanis spoke of the Check Your Seats in the Heat campaign. This project, which opposes children and pets in vehicles on hot days, is a joint project between the Greater Henderson Kiwanis and our Basic Key Club. Everything was more fun than work though as we got acquainted with the people who attended from all around Nevada.

On a Monday night we showed our support for our sponsoring Kiwanis club, the Greater Henderson Kiwanis, and went to their fundraiser at BJ’s Restaurant and Brew House. While feasting on our delicious food, we conversed with fellow Kiwanians and it was a blast! They were glad to see Basic Key Club members show their appreciation and it was nice to give back for a change. With everything: the company, the food, and the atmosphere - my first experience at BJ’s was really quite pleasant.

Check Your Seat in the Heat
Key Club members had the opportunity to work with their Green Valley Kiwanis at their event Check Your Seat in the Heat. Green Valley Kiwanis were able to team up with the Greater Henderson Kiwanis, Circle K, and the City of Henderson to raise awareness about leaving children, pets, and elderlies in the car during the summer heat. A flyer and a single red ribbon were handed out to passing citizens as a reminder to never forget anybody in the car as it could be potentially dangerous. During a five hour span, I was able to meet many of my Kiwanis and fellow Key Club members as well as build stronger relations. At one point we ran out of ribbons! Over 500 ribbons were handed out to the citizens of Henderson and thus, now 500 people will now be reminded to never forget any children, pets, and/or elderlies in the car.
